Anonymous declares war on Australia
Just in the last week, I was alerted to a video that had been posted to YouTube by Anonymous – the internet group known for their protests against Scientology (and their lulz on the website 4ch… whoops, forgot Rules 1 and 2 there for a second) – in which they declared “war” on Australia and several other western nations. Here’s the video:
Where did all this come from? Well, for Aussies it began with the government moving towards wanting to filter the Internet. Australian members of Anonymous began their fight against censorship under a campaign called Operation DidgeriDIE, which resulted in Aussie government websites (including the home page of Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd) were taken down in an orchestrated DDoS attack.
News of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement surfaced online, being developed among the USA, Australia and the EU, which indicated possible threats and/or changes to what we perceive the internet as it is today. Anonymous, understandably, shit a brick, and thus the declaration of war came about.
It should be interesting to see how this campaign develops…
